BC Fiddle Workshops with Quinn Bachand
Sunday, March 19, 2023 / 10:00 am
The Lounge, 2nd floor, Oak Bay Recreation Centre, 1975 Bee Street, Victoria, BC

Quinn Bachand, one of Canada’s most outstanding award winning young musicians will be teaching three workshops on the fiddling of James Isnardy.
In 2017 Quinn discovered lost archives of one of BC’s earliest fiddlers, James “Jimmy” Isnardy (1879-1978) – a St’at’imc packer, rancher, barber and local musician living in BC’s Cariboo region. 19th century residents and miners taught Isnardy the region’s early repertoire. Some of this repertoire, ornamentation and bowing will be instructed by Quinn and divided into three levels:
BEGINNER: 10:00 am to 11:00 am – Students will learn one beginner tune from Isnardy’s repertoire
INTERMEDIATE: 11:15 am to 12:15 pm – Students will learn one intermediate tune from Isnardy’s repertoire, concentrating on Isnardy’s bowing techniques.
ADVANCED: 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm – Students will learn one advanced tune from Isnardy’s repertoire, focusing on his ornamentation and bowing techniques.
Workshops will take place in The Lounge, located on the second floor of the Oak Bay Recreation Centre, at 1975 Bee Street.
