Get ready for a wonderful evening of music as Mike McKenna Jr. and John Gogo take the stage “workshop style”, trading off songs and stories from their respective East and West Coast backgrounds!

2021 ECMA winner Mike McKenna Jr. has become a rising star on the Canadian music scene; a true singer-songwriter with warm indie folk and Americana tones, a raspy and soulful voice, and lyrics laden with captivating storytelling.

Born in Glace Bay and raised along the Mira River, Mike’s songwriting aesthetic points heavily to his roots growing up in small-town industrial Cape Breton. Over the course of 3 studio albums he’s brought us the colourful nostalgia of his home through narrative, poetry, protest, and true stories about life, love and death in Nova Scotia‚Äôs coastal, working-class communities.

His newest record, ‘At the Edge of the World’ (recorded & produced by Victoria’s own Quinn Bachand) received outstanding reviews both in Canada and internationally, and along with winning the 2021 ECMA for ‘Rising Star Recording of the Year’ it also saw nominations from the East Coast Music Awards, the Canadian Folk Music Awards and Music Nova Scotia Awards.

Sharing the stage for an evening of unforgettable songs and stories will be Vancouver Island’s own John Gogo, who in 1985 began playing his acoustic guitar in beer parlours and at folk festivals. He released his debut album ‘Coal & Wood’ in 1990, which included original songs about his family’s deep roots in mining and logging. Since then John has toured all across Canada, his music videos have enjoyed rotation on Much Music & CMT. Over the past 30 years John has been involved in many music, artistic and theatre projects. The Victoria Times Colonist newspaper called John “one of the most talented singer/songwriters this area has ever produced” . John is poised to record a new album in 2023.
